Getting StartedThis post is just a general "how to get started" post.
If you've read the
gameplay page, you know that characters arrive on the ship via wormhole. As luck would have it, they arrive in the Arrivals Office located on the top floor of the
S.S. Panic. Your character will immediately be accosted by aliens, who will try to shovel a Babelfish into your character's ear so that your character can understand what's happening.
After that, there's a ton of paperwork that needs to be done. On the bright side, there are forms in every known language; on the not-so-bright side, there are SO MANY FORMS. It will take hours to fill them out, and although your character can just leave without finishing, that might mean they're without money to purchase food, or without a room, or they might end up in jail, etc. It's best to fill them out. The reward for doing so is their Guide and their Towel.
As soon as they step out of the Arrivals Office, your character is on their own. They can get a
job or they can freeload for a while if they prefer. Once your character has been here a while, they'll be eligible for
promotions.
Post FormattingThere are two communities where the IC action takes place. If you want to write private logs, or want to set up open action posts, those go in
thepanicship which is the Logs Community. If your character is using their Guide to make an Audio, Video or Text post, those posts go in
thepanicguide, which is the Network Community. If you want to plot, introduce yourself, or interact with your fellow gamemates in general, post to
thepanicroom, the OOC Community.
Please remember to
appropriately tag your posts. When you make a post to the logs or network community, there will be a box where you can tag your post called "tags." The format for
thepanicship is
Canon: Character. An example being:
Tales of the Abyss: Luke fon Fabre
This way, it's easy to track the history of characters and, more importantly for you guys, it's easier to find your threads when AC rolls around.
If you have a character that has the potential to be godmodey, or you there's something specific you don't want to RP, be sure to check out the
Permissions page.
Game FunctionsThe
calendar will be updated monthly, but in general the main structure of the game will remain the same. During the final week of the month, the Infinite Improbability Drive will kick off. In general, these events will be more light-hearted, since obviously the "improbable" will be happening. Then, a week or so after the IID kicks off, the ship will arrive on a new planet. Some planets may be revisited in the future, but in general each planet will be unique. Some will be fictional planets while others will be based off of other canons.
On the
25th of every month,
activity check will take place. You should have made a post to the AC page when you first joined the game. A post will be made monthly on the main community to remind you about it. You have until the 1st of the month to post your AC. More information about AC can be found on the AC page itself, but basically you need to make 20 comments a month in at least two different threads. Backtagging is okay, but at least one of the threads needs to be from the current month. Basically, we don't want to see people using the same thread for 6 months straight. You can use comments from your own posts, but the 2+ threads you submit for AC need to come from different posts, ie you can't use multiple threads on the same post for AC; you need a thread from another post.
