Restless Nights

Who: Choromatsu and others
What: However briefly, he's now the oldest, and has some things to think about. Also, weather.
Where: Level 5 Block 2 first, then around the ship
When: The night after the announcement
Warning(s): Matsus.

PRIVATE; LEVEL 5 BLOCK 2

The first time he had slept in a bed by himself, he'd been on the cusp of finally becoming the adult he'd wanted to be. And then he'd thrown it out.

This time is different. He'd CHOSEN to move out that time; this time, the isolation is imposed. He lies awake in bed, various thoughts and anxieties running through his head in a raucous cacophony keeping him awake. Thoughts like whether they would see home again, whether he would be able to keep up being a good worker or if he'd just slip behind like before, whether he'd be able to be a good big brother to Jyushimatsu during this situation.

About being a big brother at all.

He'd often fantasized about being the oldest. Considering how useless the eldest two could be -- Osomatsu with his stunted maturity, Karamatsu with his egocentric detachment from reality -- the idea of being the one who called the shots had a lot of appeal. He could be the one to help guide them on the road to independence! They could actually move forward and stop being shitty NEETs! Even as a child, he'd fantasized about it, although he didn't like to talk about what happened the one time he DID have authority these days, seeing as it was very embarrassing. As they'd gotten older and it became increasingly obvious that Osomatsu had no intention of growing up mentally, the urge had grown greater. And now, it seems, he IS the eldest here.

Yet for some reason, now that the fantasy is real, it's... terrifying. He has to look over Jyushimatsu now, has to help guide him. He has no support, no one to watch his back. He has to make these decisions now. Him, the scumbag who couldn't even hold down a job for a full year before quitting it. Could he really do this sort of thing? What if he just makes things worse? If he ever sees the others again and it turns out something happened to Jyushimatsu under his watch, would they ever forgive him? Is he... really independent enough?

The thoughts, compounded with the lack of room or bedmates, prevent him from sleeping. He could just get up and walk it off, but would that really be okay? Would anybody else even be up? Would --

...was that thunder?

PUBLIC; ALL

Puddles drip in Choromatsu's wake as he walks through the ship. Well, at least he'd put the Nyaa-chan stuff somewhere safe when the warning had come up, but...

Would any place on this ship even CARRY towels at this hour?

Fortunately for Jyushimatsu, he does not have to entertain thoughts about who the oldest is now that they are on board the S.S. Panic. Nothing has really changed for him... Except for the crushing loneliness. Sure, he is sharing a room with Kamille, but Choromatsu is off somewhere else. And there are no more brothers. Why? Why didn't they come, too? Were they not invited?

His first night in the room, he'd slept peacefully, thanks to the many changes he'd needed to adjust to. But the next few nights were suffering. Long, and sad. And Jyushimatsu wasn't very good with sad. Where was Ichimatsu-niisan, and the others? What had happened to them? Did they... die?

And then. Then came the blizzard. In his room, for crying out loud. That had been the last straw. Jyushimatsu had yelled and ripped the door off its hinges before exiting, thankfully not venting his frustrations on his poor roommate. He did steal Kamille's covers, though.

Wrapped in every blanket he could find, Jyushimatsu leaves block 4 in hopes of finding warmer temperatures. Choromatsu may notice a huge lump of... something... wandering the halls, groaning like a ghost.

So... Cold... The moving lump groans again, and begins making its way towards Choromatsu, slowly, swaying back and forth.

Must... find... warmth...! Suddenly, it... attacks? Or, rather, two limbs jut out into the darkness and grasp at the man.

Whatever it is, it groans again, louder this time... And then it leans in... and...!

Jyushimatsu's head pops out of the blankets. "Niisan, it's cold!"

[personal profile] neetfreak 2016-04-29 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Jyushi wraps the blankets around himself tighter. He is debating dragging Choromatsu into the pile with him so that they can talk, and he wouldn't have to keep sticking his head out. But he refrains. For now. Thankfully he doesn't have a murderous look in his eye, but that doesn't mean you are off the hook, Choromatsu-niisan.

"There is a blizzard in my room! I'm staying in yours!"

"What's wrong with your room?" Jyushimatsu leans in, eyes narrowing darkly at Choromatsu. You're going to turn him away? Really? When he's like this?

[personal profile] neetfreak 2016-04-30 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Wet," repeats Jyushimatsu, and he leans back, as though he were looking up at the ceiling. Why? Why must everything be difficult tonight? He's in a horrible mood, and that is... Just not who he really is.

After a long pause, he stands up straight again, giving Choromatsu another wide-eyed stare. "Let's find another room."

The blanket-lump shuffles after Choromatsu. This better be a good one. Otherwise, someone's neck is going to pay.

When they open the door, a blast of warm air hits them, and Jyushimatsu instantly hops into the room, leaving the blankets he'd gathered together on the floor outside.

"YEAH! It's nice in here! And empty!" This room is his now. He has claimed it. For as long as it stays warm. "Hustle, hustle, muscle, muscle!"
neetfreak: (hit and run)

[personal profile] neetfreak 2016-04-30 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Him, too. Which is fine, because it is time to sleep. Jyushimatsu catapults himself into one of the beds and pulls up the covers around him, snuggling deeply already. Wow, this is so nice! He hopes that the room stays like this.

"Why's the weather acting weird inside the ship, niisan?" he asks with his usual grin. That's a lot better than the scary face he was making earlier.

"Yeah, complain!" Jyushimatsu laughs. And then his tone turns dark again. "I could kill those bastards for putting me through that."

And then the darkness is gone as quickly as it came.

Who do they even complain to, anyway? The captain? With a name like Captain Panic, he's probably no good at taking complaints, just making them. But Jyushimatsu isn't really thinking about that now. He's settling in to sleep, not even knowing about Choromatsu's inner dilemma, or his fears.

If you want someone to talk to, there's a brother right here. Then again, was this brother really the best option?

Days like these made Kamille grateful for what temperature control his normal suit had. It didn't help with the physical effects, but at least he could sleep during the shifts... or he could if Jyushimatsu hadn't lifted his blankets for whatever reason!

"Choromatsu?" On the search for his missing bed sheets, Kamille came upon the older matsu brother. "What happened to you?! You're soaked to the bone!"

[personal profile] zetahatsudo 2016-05-01 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure we'll find something to help," Kamille told the wet man. He wasn't a drinker, and he didn't really know the area that well yet, but even if they didn't find a bar, the way the weather was they were bound to find someplace that would give Choromatsu what he needed. "Incidentally, have you seen your brother? He went missing from our room, and now my bedsheets are gone."

Choromatsu, meet Sala the drippy dragon. Guess who else got soaked?

Before either of them can really say anything, her wings flare out to either side, and she shakes off those and her tail with a quick whiplash that he might want to not walk too close to.

Those are all very descriptive of what is going on here and, yes, she's also not very heavily clothed, although she's starting to hella regret that now. These temperature shifts might drive her nuts...

But, right, she just smacked someone in the face, and she turns to him. "Ah, I am quite sorry about that! I was not looking where I was shaking."

What an awkward man. It's a reminder that Sala still has only talked to handful of human-shaped men in her life so far, too, and this one...

Seems incredibly average. Bland, almost. Her wings fold and shrink away, not even visible from in front of her now. "Still, I should be just a bit more careful - but for a ship that should have complete control of its environment, this is concerning."

Small talk really wasn't her specialty, but there wasn't much else to get on about right now. "Let alone the temperature swings. Someone caught in the wrong temperature with the wrong clothing could come to harm quite easily."

Like if she runs into a blizzard wearing what she showed up here in. "Yet they expect to make a long voyage of this with such a severe lack of control?"

"Do you have any experience with protests or community organization? It seems as though it could be a valuable skill to have amongst those of us brought here from destroyed worlds." Sala was a leader, but not so good at diplomacy as she was at leading soldiers into battle. If this little man could coordinate a reasonable complaint to the captain, he might very well be useful.

"Oh." Sala did sound just a bit disappointed. "Well, that still means you have some experience with communicating ideas, I'm sure."

Or he was useless, but she was still giving him... half the benefit of the doubt maybe?

"Perhaps we should get a few of the others involved."

"You have brothers? Well at least you've arbitrated some arguments then..." A few of them. If he's second best. What has she gotten herself into?

"Still, that is the most relevant point - I'd wager that this is horribly inconvenient for almost everyone on board this ship."

He's already looking kind of pathetic. She's not really into dudes anyways. "Just you and your... younger brother? Out of how many?" Better to talk about that than go on about how much he sucks. She's not completely merciless.

Sextuplets. The age difference was almost purely academic, then, although if they organized themselves that way then it was relevant regardless. Interpersonal relationships were funny things. "I'm an only child - I can't possibly imagine having one sibling, let alone five."

Sala offers him a smile. "We are all away from everything we've ever known. It is difficult by nature... but we really must do something about this weather even if it is a temporary solution."

"You've spent so much of your life around them, and now..." Sala can understand that, at least. She's known her closest attendants since the three of them were all very small.

"I'll be waiting for you to report back! Perhaps you could even make an announcement for everyone."
